How Shelf Talkers Change Basket Choices
Most shoppers give a shelf face only a few seconds of attention. A shelf talker that leads with a vague lifestyle claim wastes that window. Lead with the concrete reason to choose: pack size for the household, a clear saving versus the regular price, or a use occasion that matches what is already in the trolley.
In Thai hypermarkets we often see talkers fighting the packaging for colour. Soft champagne and ivory fields with a single coral accent read cleaner under fluorescent lighting than dense photo backgrounds. Keep legal footnotes readable but secondary; the first line must answer “why this SKU now.”
Placement matters as much as copy. Talkers that sit above eye-blocking price rails or behind hanging wobblers never get read. Walk the bay with the merchandiser before print, mark the exact clip positions, and leave one spare set in the store office for weekend resets.
